I've only had this deck a few days and I already love it! It's not normally the type I go for, so I was a bit hesitant at first, but the way the connections to all of the different fairytales has enriched my knowledge of the tarot, allowing me to give deeper insight to my clients when reading. Funnily enough, it's even expanded my knowledge of the court cards, which I've always struggled a bit with. Even my mom and my nieces (7 & 5 y/o) got caught up in the cards, allowing us this awesome bonding experience of recalling the stories and discussing the imagery - a great experience all around.The card stock seems pretty in line with my other decks, I don't find this deck difficult at all to handle. If I had to name one thing I dislike about it, I would have to say the design on the back of the card is not very aesthetically pleasing. The flower is stretched in an awkward way across the back, I feel as if it would've been better to have three smaller flowers of better sizing in the same place. I mention this because, for me the card aesthetics are a really important thing - though at least it's the back, so it can be mostly ignored. Overall great deck, I would definitely recommend it!
I love how these cards are printed on a good solid paper and coated with a light protective plastic layer that makes the cards easy to keep clean and from getting all bent up and raggedy. These cards will last & stay in great shape for many years! I am an experienced tarot reader. I bought this deck as a collector's item, and also as a fun personal deck for my own enjoyment with readings for myself, friends, and loved ones. I love all the illustrations. Before I bought the deck I observed that some people have complained about how this deck doesn't illustrate the universal meanings of each card or show proper meanings of each card, but I beg to differ. I don't recommend this deck to those who are new to tarot and trying to learn if they are looking for the meanings mostly through the illustrations as some illustrations aren't as universal as say the Rider-Waite or Sharmin-Caselli deck. However, most of the illustrations do show the universal meanings but not in as much clarity as a Rider-Waite or Sharmin-Caselli deck (which are the most ideal decks for new tarot readers to learn with 1st before attempting to explore any other creative/collector's decks). I love how she took different fairy tales to illustrate the meanings of each card, as well how clear she explained the meanings of each card in the tiny booklet that comes included with the deck (found in the box with the cards). As an experienced tarot reader, I can tell you that I appreciate this deck because you can get tired of the most basic universal decks after years of using them. When that happens, it is okay to seek other more creative decks for exploration and for visual stimulation as well.
This light hearted tarot, created by Dorothy Morrison and illustrated by Mary Hanson-Roberts, is a tribute to the child in us. It successfully interweaves children's stories with the tarot, making it a fun and intuitive tool for learning, meditation, and divination.The Major Arcana are labeled according to the Rider's Tarot and numbered with roman numerals at the bottom, starting on 0 with the Fool. The color on the background gradually changes from orange on the top, to green, to blue, and finally red at the bottom. The imagery on these loosely follows the Rider's tradition, but are masterfully integrated with images from childhood. There are plenty of fun ones like The Devil, showing the hands of a puppeteer moving the string of a puppet, and Justice, showing a little bear accusing Goldielocks while a cop peeks into the room through a door.Each suit in the Minor Arcana is distinguished by different colored background: blue for pentacles, green for cups, orange for rods, and red for swords. The court cards are labeled at the bottom as page, knight, queen and king. The pips, in addition to be labeled, are bordered the amount of icon representing the card. This is, the Three of Swords is labeled as such at the bottom and bordered by three swords. These cards are also fully illustrated, but they follow Rider's tradition only in interpretation.The Little White Book that comes with this book provides an introduction, a brief interpretation of each card, and four layout for divination: The One Card Spread, The Story Spread (3 cards), Past, Present and Future Spread (9 cards), and the Celtic Cross Spread. Fortunately, there is a book about these cards, The Whimsical Tarot: A Deck for Children and the Young at Heart, which is sold separately.This deck is an easy recommendation for beginners, and for those which are still young at heart.
